Bosses at West Lancashire College were joined by key partners to celebrate the beginning of work on a £2.5m centre of excellence for Construction, Engineering & Logistics.
They hope it will provide crucial apprenticeship opportunities for young people in the borough.
The new centre will provide facilities for future carpenters, bricklayers, electricians, engineers, motor mechanics, logistics operatives, plasterers and plumbers to learn skills in a realistic working environment.
“We have some world class manufacturers, logistics and engineering companies in the area and our new innovative centre will specialise in courses to meet industry needs and ensure that students develop the confidence and skills to walk straight into a career in industry.
I am delighted to reach the construction stage of the project and very much look forward to opening the doors to students.”
Denise Williamson, Principal
The new centre is pivotal for the college ambitions, their desire to grow the provision of apprenticeships and help meet local employment priorities. It will cater for the needs of the young people and adults in Skelmersdale and the surrounding area, enabling them to gain the vocational skills that employers expect.
We can’t wait to see the finished project!
