On Friday 28th February 2025, the Licence to Sew Graduation Ceremony took place, where talented participants in the Licence to Sew programme received their graduation certificates.
The Licence to Sew programme is funded by West Lancashire Borough Council’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund and is delivered in partnership with The Sewing Rooms, Skelmersdale. It provides local people from the age of 17+ the opportunity to upskill and train to become a skilled machinist, with the potential after completion of the programme to be employed by local manufacturing business.
The Ceremony took place at Lancashire Manor Hotel, where guests enjoyed afternoon tea before hearing from a variety of informative speakers, including:
- Mike Stevens, BBC Senior Journalist
- Paula Gamester MBE, CEO of The Sewing Rooms
- Cllr Melissa Parlour, Lead Member for Economic Regeneration and Green Growth
- Celia Thornley, UK Fashion and Textile Association
- Ashley Dalton, MP for West Lancashire
